Review of Restless (2022)

The protagonist of the narrative is a lieutenant whose life is completely turned around when he decides to conceal evidence. He kills a man in the first ten minutes, then hides the body in the trunk of his car. From here, things can only get worse.

The Régis Blondeau-directed criminal thriller Restless (also known as Sans répit) is now streaming on Netflix. The film, which features Franck Gastambide and Simon Abkarian, is about a dishonest police officer whose life takes an uncontrollable turn after getting into a vehicle accident.

After learning of his mother's passing, Lieutenant Thomas Blin in the movie is en route to the neighborhood hospital. He receives a phone call about some troubling problems at work while he is traveling, and this briefly attracts his attention.

He accidently runs over a pedestrian while driving while distracted, killing the man instantaneously. He rushes away from the site of the murder while fleeing in fear, loading the body into the trunk of his vehicle.

At the hospital's funeral home, Blin pays his condolences to his mother who has passed away, while an investigation is going on at his police station. Internal Affairs have cause to believe Blin's department is pulling fast ones, and after the lieutenant exits the hospital, the focus will soon fall on him.

You might see some similarities between Grudge, the Turkish criminal thriller from the previous year, and Restless. Both movies center on a high-ranking police officer who has committed a crime and attempt to cover it up. Restless is fairly engaging material, similar to Grudge. It is the kind of movie that quickly establishes its plot, creates a small amount of tension, and then proceeds.

Although Restless isn't the most inventive movie or jam-packed with set pieces, action, or endless spectacle, it is nonetheless pretty good. It accomplishes everything it sets out to achieve, has enough plot to keep things interesting, and builds to a suspenseful climax.

Lieutenant Blin, the main character played by Franck Gastambide in the television series Restless, exudes a certain amount of "grubby menace." He portrays Blin as a no-nonsense hardman who spends the duration of the movie attempting to dig himself out of a pickle. He is kind of like a cheap Mitchell brother in this role.

Even though Blin makes horrible mistakes throughout the movie and is far from a perfect person, you never feel inclined to support him. It only seeks to pique your interest in his quest, which it mostly succeeds in doing. A significant component of this is Gastambide's performance, as he exhibits a commanding presence on screen. He swims through this movie like a shark, never pausing until his mission is accomplished.

He makes this movie so enjoyable because he is so likable. Restless' appealing visuals, occasional use of grim humor, and awareness of not overstaying its welcome also assist.

Being restless is entertaining. If you enjoy watching crime thrillers, I doubt Restless will be of interest to you. However, if you do, then you'll probably enjoy it.
